We had the good fortune of connecting with Kyle Campbell and we’ve shared our conversation below.
Hi Kyle, can you walk us through the thought-process of starting your business?
The thought process behind starting my own business was the fact that I have a very well driven work ethic . I know how to work very hard , and never afraid of manual labor . It helps keep me in shape and I’m making money at the same time. So in reality it’s a win win situation for me , and my clients as well . I got tired of putting in long hours of work for other companies being paid the bare minimum after all the hard work I was putting in , and hardly ever being recognized for it.
Where now, all my hard work pays off , and it feels good in the short run and long run. I’ve personally established multiple clients within the Ventura county area , Santa Barbara county area , as well as Los Angeles county area. I’m striving each day I wake up . My business keeps me motivated all year long and I could definitely say it helps keeps me on my toes!
What should our readers know about your business?
What sets me apart from other firewood companies out there, is I’m a one man show. Total entrepreneur and one of the best out there. There’s not many things that I can’t do or succeed with if I keep my head to it physically, and psychologically. I don’t look up to others for help as I know I could do it myself, and a lot of the times most people will fail you as you expect them to do the same as you would.
With that said, running my own firewood delivery business keeps me on my toes as there’s always something to be done; whether it’s cutting wood , splitting wood , delivering wood , or going to pick up wood. I gather my own oak firewood throughout the local mountains including : Santa Monica mountains as well as Los Padres national Forest. Sometimes I have to use my winch on my truck to pull oak tree’s up hillsides. If it weren’t for me going around in the local mountains doing this type of work, there would be a lot more fuel for the fires.
Most people my age don’t run a one man firewood business that’s just because it’s a very, very hard job. When I hear some people say “I’m going to hit the gym”, I laugh.
I enjoy what I do as it helps keep me in shape , while in the long run I’m being paid for it .
Also, it doesn’t only help me but it helps our firefighters , local homeowners , mother nature. So in reality it’s a win-win situation for us all. I believe that’s how it should be with everything in life, but in this generation it’s not. There’s some that win and some that lose .
I’m also in the process of becoming a firefighter so having a daily workout 12-16 hours a day 7 days a week will ensure I’m more than ready to get on with any fire department and defeat anything that comes my way.
Some believe selling firewood is an easy job, and let me tell you it’s definitely not ! It takes a lot of manual labor, along with being in shape. I’ve seen multiple different companies, along with solo guys try to get up and going but they are only around for a year or two and then vanish .
When clients of mine bring up my competition, I laugh as I’m their competition!
Firewood Guy/ Firewood Guy will always be Ventura county and Santa Barbara county’s number one firewood provider as long as my feet are still on the ground, and my heart is still ticking .
Let’s say your best friend was visiting the area and you wanted to show them the best time ever. Where would you take them? Give us a little itinerary – say it was a week long trip, where would you eat, drink, visit, hang out, etc.
If a good friend of mine came into town, a place I would want to go to is Big Bear. I love and really enjoy small towns where everyone knows each other. Going to small towns is very peaceful as most people are always very friendly. My favorite food is pizza so it would probably be out at a pizza restaurant. I’m sober from alcohol as of 02/2021 so I would probably just eat whatever kind of pizza is ordered , while sipping on a soda pop. I’m not too picky with drinks as long as it doesn’t consist of alcohol.
After catching up I would enjoy getting a run in on the hill , going snowboarding as it’s been quite sometime considering I’m always so busy trying to run the business , but in reality the business runs me .
The Shoutout series is all about recognizing that our success and where we are in life is at least somewhat thanks to the efforts, support, mentorship, love and encouragement of others. So is there someone that you want to dedicate your shoutout to?
I have a lot of appreciation for the gentleman I use to work for. His name is Dustin Walker. He may not be here today, but I know from up above he knows how hard I strive and work on the daily. He actually ran his own firewood delivery business. He had his head in the wrong place and unfortunately he passed away.
Going through that in my life at a young stage, it helped me pull my head out of my rear end and figure out what I really wanted in life.
The hard , endless hours definitely and always pay off in one way ,shape , or form. I have numerous clients that I keep beyond satisfied all year long.
I like to recognize my family for always being there to support me along the journey and road that I’m on, and keeping me motivated.
